Annie Booth joins the Virginia Tech Statistics Department as Assistant Professor

Annie Booth joins us from NC State University, where she started as an Assistant Professor of Statistics in 2023. She is an alumnus of our department, having earned her Ph.D. in Statistics at Virginia Tech only two years ago. Annie says, "I am so happy to be back in Blacksburg! This is a very special department in a very special place, and I am blessed to be able to call it home."
Her research involves designing and analyzing computer experiments. She works collaboratively with engineers and scientists who develop complex computer simulations to turn those simulations into tools for decision-making. She utilizes statistical modeling and the design of experiments to answer questions such as: How can we design an engine to maximize energy efficiency? What is the probability of flight failure for a particular aircraft design? Can we accurately predict the forces that an aircraft will experience in flight?
Annie is also looking forward to teaching our graduate-level courses in statistical programming and statistical computing.
